This work is a collection of African tales whose composition dates back to around 2000 years before the birth of Christ. But the stories told are believed to have taken place some 500 years ago, in the days of kings Nebka, Djoser, Snefrou and the then reigning king, Khoufou.

In need of entertainment, King Khoufou summons his children so that they tell him wonderful stories, in order to distract him.

These stories give us to know different feats of magicians of ancient times: One of them knows how to transform a wax crocodile into a living crocodile; another knows how to separate the waters of a lake in two; a last considered then as the most famous magician of the country, not only this man knows how to cut a head and put it back in place, but he also knows how to predict the future.
