This novel highlights one of the darkest pages in the history of Martinique. It describes how the state-backed slavers conceived and imposed their vision of freedom on the former negroes. It evokes the simulacrum of the abolition of slavery in 1848, the injustice and the unbearable pressure exerted on the people condemned to suffering and misery, until the bloody insurrection of the South, in 1871.

This is the story of thousands of vakabon who have forged their way to freedom, through the tight mesh of a project designed against them, without them. The vakabon, heroes and Met Pies of this story, wrote some of the most beautiful and painful pages in the great book of History of Humanity.
