What is the world?
This space where we are born, and where we spend a lifetime, not really knowing where we come from, and where we are going. In the gbè tradition there is this expression “xexeamè gòdòò” which means global world; to say that it is in one piece; and that everything fits together, in an ecosystem. This is what imposes on us humans the ecological paradigm conceived as respect for the world, for the worlds and which is only respect for ourselves.
What are the worlds?
To answer this question is to understand life; but that does not mean to master it. And when we understand life, we understand that it is part of a Universe which is and is full of an infinity of potentials that our consciousness cannot fully grasp or even control.
From the point of view of our traditions, we understand that life is a path by which we go to another destination, just as mysterious as the world. This is why to metaphorically express this departure, our ancestors speak of travel. The deceased is called "àmèyìnugbe" [amé yi nou gbé] person (àmè) party (yì) on mission (nugbe). This euphemism softens the pain of the loss of a being that we have crossed, met, affectionate or even loved, in this world of mystery that is life.
We can therefore say that if, starting from here below, we go on a mission somewhere else, towards a stranger, coming here below is also a mission to which we have subscribed elsewhere, to come and fulfill.
How to know it, how to be sure?
